Conference Award Nominations

ABCC's membership is full of innovative professionals and industry leaders. We want to recognize the excellence exhibited on your home campuses and communities. Below is a list of awards open for nominations. Feel free to submit multiple applications.

Nominees MUST be present at the 2023 ABCC conference to receive their award.

Kuumba Innovative Program (October 2022 – October 2023) 

This award recognizes the development and execution of an event/program that demonstrates excellence in planning and carrying out a comprehensive, continuous, or one-time event/program. It should significantly enhance the social, educational, and/or cultural life of students and the general community at their institution. The program should align with the center’s mission, vision, and valuesand their respective university. 

Innovative Website 

This award recognizes a center that has curated a significant innovation level with its website design and interface. The website should have elements not commonly found on other centers' websites. The website should be intuitive to navigate and aesthetically appealing.  

Senior Leader of the Year 

This award recognizes senior leaders who can lead, organize, empower, and inspire students, staff, faculty, and administrators. Nominees should possess a high degree of commitment, creativity, innovation, initiative, and integrity. This recognition is awarded to a senior leader with a deep passion for and commitment to social justice and awareness. This leader has sought to advocate for thoseoppressed and marginalized and answered the call to be an individual “for and with others.” 

New Professional of the Year 

This award recognizes a new professional that has actively demonstrated attributes of an emerging leader through their actions and character. The nominee should have displayed a significant level of innovation and creativity. The nominee should have demonstrated significant contribution and accomplishment through their work, engagement, leadership, advocacy, and/or active participation in a campus-wide initiative. The nominee should be a self-starter and have an impressive level of initiative and insight. 

Center of the Year 

This award recognizes the work of a center’s programs, initiatives, and overall impact and honors a center that’s efforts are dedicated to the development and success of the students they serve! The nominated center should demonstrate an exemplary commitment to providing students with socially active and activelearning environments. The recipient should fulfill the needs of students and align with the priorities of the center and its respective university to impact the student experience.

Undergraduate Student of the Year 

This award recognizes an undergraduate student who has made significant contributions through leadership, engagement, and advocacy. It is granted based on academic excellence, professional potential, dedicated service, and exemplary integrity. The award recognizes a student who serves as a role model for the student body by volunteering, participating in events, excelling in school, reaching out to fellow students, and portraying an overall positive attitude. 

Graduate/Professional Student of the Year 

This award recognizes a graduate/professional student who has made significant contributions through leadership, engagement, and advocacy. It is granted based on academic excellence, professional potential, dedicated service, and exemplary integrity. The award recognizes a student who serves as a role model for the student body by volunteering, participating in events, excelling in school, reaching out to fellow students, and portraying an overall positive attitude.
