The NMBCC has an extensive history of supporting the university’s efforts to challenge, support, and contribute to the continued development and success of the black students, faculty, and staff. Today, we are a one-of-a-kind, dedicated “living history” space for students to explore racial identity and express the values of a diverse and engaged learning community.
The Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center (NMBCC), a unit of the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, strives to create and consistently facilitate activities and programming that challenges, supports, and contributes to the continued development and success of Black students within the Indiana University community. We also seek to be an agent of cultural education and cross-cultural engagement for the broader community.
We have experienced several name changes and relocations throughout the center’s history. After efforts by IU students, administration and alumni, funding was secured for the construction of a new building.
We collaborate with several university entities to provide academic and other resources to help students navigate the college experience, support their academic success, and enable them to overcome obstacles that might hinder their pursuit of a degree.
